Abstract

Single pigment cells from the squid Loligo forbesi have been studied by microspectrophotometry. The absorption spectra obtained show characteristic changes on reduction and oxidation which are compatible with those found in ommochromes. The presence of melanoid substances, however, cannot be excluded.
