Disappearance of Guard Cell Chloroplasts in Ultraviolet-Irradiated Leaves

Abstract

Ultraviolet irradiation of kidney-bean leaves results in the disappearance of chloroplasts from guard cells. The evidence indicates that ultraviolet irradiation causes plastid breakdown indirectly through an effect on guard-cell metabolism.
