Abstract

The eyestalks, supraesophageal ganglia, and circumesophageal connectivesof the blind cave crayfish Orconectes pellucidus australis contain a red pigment-concentrating substance and a distal retinal pigment light-adapting one. Assays were performed on the dwarf crayfish, Cambarellus shufeldti. Thesignificance of these findings is discussed in relation to endocrine regulation of pigmentary effectors in crayfishes.
