Water from Puerto Rico's Phosphorescent Bay, when enriched with vitamin B12, thiamine, biotin, yeast autolysate, and bay-mud acid hydrolysate, has been found to support vigorous in vitro growth of the luminescent dinoflagellate Pyrodinium bahamense. Cultures of Pyrodinium are being maintained through serial passage.
