Polyribosomes were isolated from reovirus-infected L-cells. Virusinduced RNA isolated from these polyribosomes was single-stranded, heterogeneous in size, and capable of extensive hybridization with viral double-stranded RNA. Reovirus RNA, therefore, specifies in infected cells the formation of a single-stranded messenger RNA for virus-specific protein synthesis.
