Abstract

Puromycin fails to alter minimal oxygen consumption of rats treated with thyroxine, provided the rectal temperatures of these rats are maintained at 37.8° to 38.1°C. The previously reported puromycin-induced decline in basal metabolic rate of thyroxine-treated rats may have been due to the hypothermia produced by this drug.
