A pseudocolor photographically derived image of an Anopheles stephensi mosquito. This mosquito transmits Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest of the human malaria parasites. Malaria-infected red blood cells evade destruction by binding to a receptor on endothelial cells. See page 1469.
