British physicist Joseph Rotblat, the only researcher to quit the Manhattan Project on principle, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his 50-year crusade for nuclear disarmament. Rotblat founded the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, a scientists' organization that helped pave the way for several arms-control treaties. The Pugwash group shared the prize.
