Groningen, the Netherlands—An infrared astronomy satellite to be launched this month by the European Space Agency will offer unprecedented views of cool objects, such as gas clouds that form the birthplaces of stars, comets in the outer reaches of the solar system, and the dusty disks that may spawn planets.
