Electronic Networks: Scientists Hope Competition Will Improve Internet Access

Summary

Several government and scientific organizations are putting together computer networks and offering connections to the Internet. The resulting competition is providing greater access to the global information superhighway, but it is also limiting the growth of a high-speed backbone for the entire research enterprise.
