A recent paper in Science (12 Jan., p. 213) and two papers in Neuron (H. P. Larsson et al., in press, and N. Yang et al., vol. 16, p. 113) demonstrate that a charged portion of the sodium and potassium ion channel (S4) moves in response to voltage changes across the membrane, consistent with its proposed role as a voltage sensor.
