Summary

Budapest—Like other Central European education systems, Hungary's universities are struggling to shake off the shackles of the country's communist past. Budapest Technical University is getting some outside help. Representatives from Hungary's leading industrial countries are offering advice and giving support for reforms aimed at providing students with a broader education that will be more useful for their careers. And financier George Soros has helped fund Central Europe's first independent graduate school, the Central European University.
