Summary

San Francisco—At the spring meeting of the Materials Research Society, held 8 to 12 April, 3000 scientists heard 2600 papers on topics ranging from semiconductors to solar cells. Highlights included a new and faster method of fabricating a powerful superconducting wire and the first atomic-scale images of a crystal caught in the act of bending.
