Summary

The crystal structure of the simplest known molybdenum-requiring enzyme, the dimethyl sulfoxide reductase of Rhodobacter sphaeroides, is reported on in this issue of Science by Schindelin et al. (p. 1615). In his Perspective, Stiefel discusses the chemistry performed by this enzyme and how it contributes to “the smell of the sea.”
