Summary

Recent structural studies, including one reported in this issue (p. 1788), have been clarifying how photosynthetic organisms, ranging from bacteria to single-celled algae to higher plants, harvest the light they need. They show that the organisms' light-harvesting centers are carefully tailored to each species' ecological niche.
