Summary

Last December, an international body of scientists officially concluded that humans are indeed affecting global climate, a judgment based in part on research that picked out the distinctive signal of human-induced change in surface temperature patterns. Industry groups have recently challenged the report, but new data on temperatures higher in the atmosphere support the original conclusion. Work published in this week's issue of Nature shows that the pattern of recent atmospheric temperature changes matches that predicted by computer models of greenhouse warming.
