Susceptibility Genes: Pointing a Way to Prevention?

A host of other genes as well as factors in the outside world can affect the activity of a disease gene. This complexity has a bright side: If environmental factors shaping the effects of a disease gene can be tracked down, they can provide keys for treatment and prevention—a strategy now being tried for asthma and juvenile diabetes.
