Summary

Ten years ago, a new class of high-transition temperature superconductors was discovered. This led to much excitement about potential technologies, but this potential has not been realized. In his Perspective, Larbalestier discusses recent results published in Science by Yang and Lieber (p. 1836) and by Norton et al. (p. 755), which may offer ways to improve the ability of superconductors to carry high currents.
