Summary

One of the consequences of obesity is an increased risk of non-insulin-dependent diabetes. Cohen et al. present evidence in this week's issue (p. 1185) that this outcome may be mediated at least in part by leptin, a recently discovered drug that causes satiety. In their Perspective, Taylor et al. discuss this finding in the context of what is already known about insulin action and regulation of insulin resistance.
