Researchers should soon have access to a wealth of new information on expressed genes. On 22 November, the National Cancer Institute's Board of Scientific Advisers authorized $19 million in extramural funding for a project to develop technologies for high-volume gene analysis and sequencing full-length complementary DNAs (cDNAs)—the DNA of expressed genes. Several public and private outfits are also gearing up to sequence cDNAs, and The Institute for Genomic Research will soon open up its vast database of fragments of cDNA.
