Summary

Washington, D.C.—Four teams of researchers reported at the Society for Neuroscience meeting here that some cell damage in spinal cord injuries is caused not by the blow itself but by programmed cell suicide (apoptosis). The work, done with rats, also hints that stopping that apoptosis could reduce the extent of paralysis from spinal cord injury
