Summary

Variations in human personality are in part genetically determined. In a report in this issue (p. 1527), Lesch et al. demonstrate that one of the genes that influences a personality trait called neuroticism is the transporter for the neurotransmitter serotonin. Goldman in his Perspective discusses the approach that led to this finding and compares it with other recent approaches to behavioral genetics.
