Summary

Two papers in the Journal of Experimental Medicine report the identification of a marker on the cell surface of T helper cells that can distinguish between the two main cell types, TH1 and TH2. This marker, the IL-12 receptor beta chain, will be useful for monitoring these important cell types, as well as providing a potential therapeutic target.
