Some chemical reactions induced by light involve the motion of protons. In his Perspective, Douhal describes some recent work of Chudoba et al. reported in Chemical Physics Letters elucidating the role of coherent molecular vibrations in controlling the proton transfer process. With experiments such as these, and sophisticated computer modeling, a better understanding of proton transfer chemistry should emerge.
