Jack Gibbons is planning to leave after more than 4 years as the president's science adviser. John Deutch, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor and old Washington hand, is said to be the leading candidate to succeed Gibbons, in what Administration officials hope will be a move to revitalize the office
