Summary
Evolutionary and developmental biologists have joined forces to create a new field, using the genes that control how an embryo develops to study the mysteries of evolution. By analyzing the very genes that may have been mutated as one species became two or fins metamorphosed into limbs, researchers are creating new images of ancient ancestors, and realizing that similar genes may be used to create surprisingly divergent body plans.
