Summary

After many years' work, a Canadian researcher reports on page 834 that she has pinned down a gene linked to differences in foraging behavior by fruit flies. It has turned out to code for an enzyme, a member of the cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase family, that helps to relay chemical messages inside cells.
