Summary

Among the factors that influence the fractional abundances of elemental isotopes, pressure has long been assumed to be negligible. In his Perspective, Sheppard discusses work published in the same issue by Driesner et al. that indicates pressure may indeed influence isotope fractionation. This phenomenon is important not only from a theoretical standpoint, but also for applied geochemistry.
