HYDERABAD, INDIA-- To mark the 100th anniversary of Sir Ronald Ross's discovery that the Anopheles mosquito transmits the malaria parasite, some 700 scientists from 30 countries gathered near the site of his laboratory here and discussed progress against this scourge. They learned about the emerging link between malaria and HIV, about promising efforts to revive the potency of chloroquine, and about advances in genetic engineering that could lead to a malaria-free Anopheles.
