Summary

Finding a new catalyst is a big boon to chemical companies, because catalysts are key to many industrial processes, such as creating plastics and other materials. These matchmaker molecules can, for example, coax tens of thousands of identical chemical groups to link together into the polymer chains that are the basis of plastics. Now, a team of chemists from the University of Rochester in New York has created a catalyst with a new talent: keeping those chains short.
