Summary

PALISADES, NEW YORK-- In a bold, contentious move, Columbia University is linking its renowned earth science faculty at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory with biologists and social scientists to study the planet's future. The university's new Earth Institute has had a difficult start, however, because of tensions between disciplines and friction between scientists and administrators.
