Summary

A panel of outside experts that was asked to conduct a detailed review of science at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research has made a strong pitch for increasing the center's research budget. The report, part of the first comprehensive, outside look at any aspect of FDA science, will be followed by similar assessments of FDA's four other centers, all intended to help revitalize science at the agency. In addition, a search committee has been named to recruit a chief scientist to oversee research at the agency.
