Judy Redfearn About 2000 European postdocs are currently working in foreign labs as part of a novel European Union (EU) program to support international lab networks. The program will be coming up for renewal in the EU's fifth Framework program, the multibillion-dollar research effort set to begin next year, so earlier this month, researchers involved in the program, the postdocs employed by the networks, and senior figures in European science met to assess the results so far. The consensus was that the networks should continue with minor adjustments, but some postdocs had concerns, particularly over how they would find a position back home once their fellowships are over.
