Bruce Agnew Bioengineers and officials at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have consistently named three research areas as the most significant ones in bioengineering: computational science (including bioinformatics), imaging, and tissue engineering. These areas also seem likely to get attention in NIH's new bioengineering initiative.
