Summary

We know how to prevent HIV infection, and in some countries successful programs are operating. In her commentary, Hein outlines two prevention trials described in this issue of Science (a research article by the NIMH Multisite HIV Prevention Trial Group and a Viewpoint by Phoolcharoen) and discusses the relative failure of the United States to successfully implement AIDS intervention strategies.
