Summary

In images made by the world's first submillimeter camera, astronomers have seen signs of galaxies undergoing frenzied star formation when the universe was a fraction of its present age. According to one team member, the observation implies that astronomers studying visible light "have only seen about a fifth of the star formation in the early universe."
