Summary

Information about the magnetic field direction and intensity in sediment samples is important for understanding past climate change and the behavior of Earth's geomagnetic field. In his Perspective, Verosub discusses the recent development of the long-core magnetometer, an instrument that permits great improvements in the speed with which paleomagnetic data can be acquired.
