Summary

Last month's report by doctors at a Seoul fertility clinic that they had cloned a human embryo has set off a storm of scientific doubts and public anger here. The procedure, by a team from Kyunghee University Hospital, has also sent Korean politicians scrambling to fill a hole in rules adopted last year by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare that cover genetic research but not human cloning.
