One goal of neuroscience is to uncover the mystery of synaptic memory storage in nerve cells. In their Perspective, Tiedge, Bloom and Richter discuss recent work describing the mechanisms by which neurons store information on the properties of each of thousands of individual synaptic connections. They summarize evidence for function of localized RNA in this process.
