Summary

The AIDS epidemic continues unabated, undaunted by researchers' attempts to develop a vaccine for this disease. Now a new, promising method for raising potentially effective antibodies to HIV is reported in this week's issue ( LaCasse et al .). In their Perspective, Montefiori and Moore describe the ambitious experiments that led to this discovery and the work that needs to be done before it is clear whether these results will pave the way to stemming the spread of AIDS.
