Summary

Scientists have taken a step closer to confirming the existence of the ability of migratory and homing animals to use Earth's magnetic fields to navigate. At the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS, which publishes Science) held on 21 to 26 January in Anaheim, California, researchers presented new findings on the iron-laden cells that may provide these creatures with a legend to Earth's magnetic road map.
