CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS-- At a small symposium here in January, archaeologists discussed how they might use crewed submersibles and autonomous underwater vehicles to access the 90% of the world's oceans they haven't yet laid eyes on. They are hoping that these new technologies will help them beat private salvagers to hidden treasures on the unplumbed ocean floor and thereby ensure that any artifacts found will be made available for scientific study.
