Summary

DARMSTADT AND BAYREUTH, GERMANY-- A European Union (EU) program called Access to Large-Scale Facilities (LSF), which opens up local facilities to scientists across the continent, is winning plaudits from both young researchers and lab managers. For young researchers, the program can provide valuable early career experience; lab managers gain new ideas and collaborations and teaching practice for their students. The program's success is further attested to by the fact that the EU's Framework 5 program, launched last month, will spend $200 million on the LSF program over the next 4 years--a 50% increase over previous spending levels.
