On page 2164, a team of electrical engineers describes a lensless digital camera that records three-dimensional views. The system works by bathing an object in ordinary light, rotating it on a stage, and recording the interference of thousands of pairs of light rays reflected from or transmitted through the object. Other researchers say the technique could capture cells and tissues in three dimensions and give depth to machine vision.
