Java Applet Lets Readers Bite Into Research

A University of Washington graduate student has authored what is seen as the first electronically published astrophysics paper to use an interactive Java applet. It's part of a move to make use of those features of the computer language especially tailored to help teachers convey a lesson to their students and to allow researchers to make their own calculations from the data. The application comes from a field that has led the way in electronic publishing, and seems likely to spread to other disciplines.
