Summary

Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Bill Richardson last week recommended that the former director of Los Alamos National Laboratory and two other officials be disciplined for bungling a spy investigation. The move has prompted speculation that Richardson is looking to deflect blame from DOE headquarters, and it has placed a spotlight on the lab's contractor, the University of California, which must formally discipline the officials.
