Summary

In the recent geological past, temperature and atmospheric COconcentrations have been coupled: Cooling generally coincides with low COand warming with high COconcentrations. However, some geological records indicate that in the more distant geological past, temperature and COmay have been uncoupled. Such temperature-COuncoupling, if confirmed by further studies, may influence our ideas about climate-forcing mechanisms and about functioning of paleoecosystems.
