Summary

Until recent data cast doubt on it, Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND), an equation that adds a fudge factor to Newton's law of gravity, had enjoyed a good run for predicting the motions of galactic clouds. Upcoming studies of the big bang's afterglow should make or break the concept that many cosmologists love to hate.
