Summary

More than a dozen neighbors are seeking $1 billion in damages stemming from Brookhaven National Laboratory's alleged negligence in handling dangerous chemical and radioactive wastes. This spring the plaintiffs will ask to be certified as a class, allowing them to sue Brookhaven as a group rather than as individuals. If the court agrees, then what is already a protracted and expensive judicial battle will move into high gear.
