WASHINGTON, D.C.-- At the American Association for the Advancement of Science's annual meeting, held here 17 to 22 February, scientists reported recovering a versatile microbe from the scalding fluid ejected during a submarine eruption. The discoverers think the bug is a potential model for extraterrestrial life and therefore plan to name it Saganella in honor of the late astronomer Carl Sagan.
